Milne Family

The Milne Family has been raising purebred Gelbvieh cattle for 45 years.  In 1972 Gelbvieh cattle were imported from Germany; late Grandfather John Milne was one of the first five to bring them to Canada.  Canadian Pioneer Registration number four was later named number one calving ease sire in Canada and the U.S., which raised semen sales and resulted in a sellout.  Pioneer's arrival was followed by the importation of Pride of Dunvagen, a female who produced the foundation of the Dunvagen Herd, with five heifers in the first three years.  These females were then mated to A.I. sires, increasing full blood numbers for the Milne's.  In the years to follow, the Milne family continued to showcase their herd at Farm Fair in Edmonton for 25 consecutive years, with many titles to their credit and many other shows.

Today on the Milne family ranch and the purebred Gelbvieh herd have a new line of balancer bred calves.  Balancer is a term trademarked by the Gelbvieh Association, meaning a cross between purebred Gelbvieh and purebred Angus. Harold and Bev have also switched to a May Calving program, developing long yearling bulls available at their Annual Better Beef Bull Sale.

The Milne family also raises quality Quarter Horses with a focus on team roping and ranch skills.  Harold and Bev have been recognized as Heritage Ranch Breeders by the AQHA. Tom and his wife, Acacia, also rope regularly and have started their own breeding and training program. Tom finds himself busy as well with T.J. Milne Fairrer Service providing hoof care for many horses in the peace country!

Koziak Family

The Koziak Family is a fifth-generation grain farm operation that settled here in the year 1900.  Over the years, the family has grown into a mixed farm, farming 2700 acres of cropland and cattle.  Larry and Colleen currently live on the homestead handling the day-to-day chores. Both grandfathers are presently retired but find time to come out and run equipment during seeding and harvest time. The entire Koziak Family has embraced the Gelbvieh breed and even bolster the benefits the Gelbvieh breed offers. The Koziak Family has been recognized for many accomplishments, such as; Environmentally Sustainable Agriculture and Soil Conservation Practices, Farmstead Beautification, Northlands Farm Family Award, and Alberta Century Farm & Ranch Award.

Alicia, Chad's sister, is working as an X-ray and Lab Technician but always finds time to come help out on the farm, especially during the busy seasons.  Breanne, also a sister to Chad, has joined the working force and has proven to be an asset both at work and on the farm allow she has moved further from home she still helps out when ever she is around to visit!

Chad and Olivia

Chad and Olivia met while attending Lakeland College in Vermilion. Their joined love for the farm lifestyle and vision for their future was what brought them together. After working with cows the first time they realized this was a perfect match. Chad and Olivia were married on August 6, 2016, at the Skaro grotto north of Lamont. Chad and Olivia are both full time on the farm and at home with Sophia, Kayla and Madison. Even with their busy family life and work schedules Chad and Olivia have been working hard to increase and grow the entire operation.

Chad and Olivia are energetic in promoting the Gelbvieh breed and selling quality cattle that will require low maintenance and provide high profit. Please, stay tuned for more details on the quality cattle coming from this growing family!
